ACT 1 SCENE 3 QUESTIONS

6:41 PM

  1. Revisiting the Portia situation, why is the choosing of a man suitable for her out of her hands.
That's because when Portia's father died in their will it clearly said for Portia's spouse to be chosen by a suitor selecting one casket with a portrait of Portia out of three.
  1. Who is Shylock? What is his importance in the story thus far?
Shylock is a businessman and, also a Jew. Because, Shylock is a Jew they receive discrimination and shame.
  1. What is the agreement Shylock and Antonio come to terms with?
If Antonio does not pay then, they must provide a pound of their own flesh to Shylock.
  1. Why is Shylock so hesitant of this agreement with Antonio? While answering this question you should also explain their history and relationship between each other.
Shylock is hesitant of Antonio because, in the past Antonio has done many wrongdoings onto Shylock such as kicking, spitting, etc which makes Shylock wary of Antonio because, now he is asking for a favor and not mistreating them.
  1. Would you trust Antonio? Why or why not.
I would not trust Antonio because, of their nature. If somebody does not follow the same faith as Antonio then, they'd change personalities to a cruel one because, of that I do not trust that nature and condemn it.
